Illustrated Map: Pico Mundo
Image Making, Fall 2022
The objective of this project was to hand-illustrate a map using image making techniques about a specific topic. I based this map off of Dean Koontz's fictional town of Pico Mundo, California. This town is the main setting in his first book of the Odd Thomas series following the adventures of a short-order fry cook named Odd Thomas from the Pico Mundo Grille to the Green Moon Mall.
Elements
The elements in this map were created with ink painting, linoleum cutting, and micron pens.
Textures
These textures were made from rolling small amounts of paint over a subtle wood grain and letting the source of the paint dry out.
Typography
I played around with creating the title from brush and ink, micron pens, and paper cuts.
